Patricia Joan “Pat” Compton, age 82, of Joplin, passed away on Monday October 29, 2018, at Freeman Hospital, following an illness.
Pat was born on January 3, 1936 in Joplin, the daughter of Joe and Lena (Houk) Narrell. She has been a lifetime area resident. Pat married Charles Compton on November 20, 1953 at the site of the sunken ship in Pearl Harbor, while he was serving in the Navy in Honolulu, Hawaii . She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Saginaw Baptist Church. She served as president of the 7th District Democratic Party for several years. She also worked many years at the voting polls. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed sewing and painting. She loved spending time with her family.
Pat is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Charles Compton, Joplin; one daughter, Celia Whitehead, Carthage, Mo.; four grandchildren, Amy Kiefert and husband Pete, Leesburg, Va. Lindsey Smith and husband Tyler, Joplin, Matthew and Nate Compton, Joplin; one brother, David Narrell and wife Connie, Joplin, great-grandsons, Julian and William Kiefert, Leesburg, Va.; cousin, Mary Beth Yeakey and husband Dick; Joplin, two nephews, Scott Narrell and wife Julia, and Jay Narrell and wife Susan; and great-nephews and nieces, Lucy, Maggie, Nicholas, Benjamin, Josh, and Kate. Pat was preceded in death by a son, Mark Compton on February 6, 2015.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Saginaw Baptist Church. Reverend Don Miller and Father Michael Kuzara will officiate. Burial will be in Saginaw Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Memorial contributions maybe given to the Dialysis Unit at Freeman East in care of the mortuary.
