Mary Elizabeth “Tiny” Finley, age 96, of Joplin, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 at a local nursing center.
Tiny was born May 10, 1922 in Carthage, Missouri, daughter of the late Frank D. Snyder and Lois C. Rawles Snyder. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1940. She received a full scholarship to Drury College, but chose to attend to her widowed mother.
She married Robert E. Finley, October 23, 1948, in Joplin. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1999.
Tiny was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Joplin. She was a member of Twin Hills Golf and Country Club for over 50 years. She was also a member of numerous civic organizations in Joplin, including PEO Chapter FI, Spiva Art Center, and Wednesday Bridge Club. She was the President of the Wednesday Study Club, and President of the Past Presidents of the Woman’s Club. She was philanthropic by nature.
She was known for her beautiful singing voice. Cooking was an expression of her love for her family and friends, and she considered that ability one of her greatest blessings.
Survivors include her sons, Bruce E. Finley of Afton, Oklahoma, Brent D. Finley and wife Dianna of Diamond, and Christopher R. Finley and wife Cheryl of Carthage; three grandchildren, Erin A. Finley of Diamond, Sarah Horine and husband Chris of Carthage, and Kristy Williers and husband Jason of Tampa, Florida; one great-grandchild, Atlas Horine; one nephew, Don Snyder and wife Doris of Joplin.
She will be greatly missed by those having had the privilege of being a part of her life.
Memorial service will be Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Marsha West Eichler officiating.
Private interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church of Joplin.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
