Julia Ann Nicholas, 83, of Pittsburg, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Via Christi Village.
She was born September 2, 1935, the daughter of Henry R. and Dorothy Lucille (Renn) Wettstein. As a young girl, she moved to California with her family, where she resided until moving back to Pittsburg in 1969.
While living in California, she worked as a hairdresser for several years. After moving back to Pittsburg, she worked at the VFW, then McNally’s Manufacturing, where she was President of the Union, and was responsible for negotiations. After the closing of McNally’s, she went back to school and earned an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing from Labette Community College. She enjoyed working at Osawatomie State Hospital as a Registered Nurse, specializing Psych, then became a traveling nurse working in Kansas, Tennessee, and Texas.
Ms. Nicholas was of Catholic faith.
Survivors include, a brother, John A. Wettstein and his wife, Fern of Joplin, Missouri; a sister, Patricia Badnin of Lake Oswego, Oregon; and three nieces, Pam Levi, Trudy Peterson, and Susan Sanders.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 5, at the Via Christi Village Chapel, 1502 E. Centennial Dr., Pittsburg, with Chaplain Adah Hutchcraft officiating. Friends may call at the Brenner Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday to sign the register. The family suggests memorials be given to the Via Christi Village Activity Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
