Michael Ray Yocum, age 66 of Duenweg, Mo., passed away early Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Freeman Hospital following an illness.
Mike was born on November 12, 1951 in Joplin, the son of Ogle and Josephine (Long) Yocum. He has been a lifetime area resident, Mike was a Captain for the Joplin Fire Department retiring in 2002 after 20 years of service. He enjoyed teaching his children to fish, was an avid quail hunter and golfer, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
He married Sherri Stiles on June 15, 1972, she preceded him in death on January 10, 2012. Mike was also preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include one son, Adam Yocum and Sasha of Joplin; two daughters, Kari Yocum and Matt Guthrie of Galena, Ks., Lindsey Lawver of Joplin; one brother, Ronald Yocum of Oklahoma City, Ok.; one sister, Cheryl McKinney of Corpus Christi, Tx.; and six grandchildren, Baylor Smith, Micah Yocum, Dominic Malone, Riley Guthrie, Hadley Lawver and Blakely Shelton.
Services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
