Norma Capps

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Mrs. Norma Lee Crowder Capps, aged 86, of Granby MO died October 10, 2018 at Freeman West after a long illness and injury, surrounded by family.

She was born at home in Marionville, MO on January 4, 1932, to Omer Vernon Crowder and Pauline Hope Comstock Crowder, the second of eight siblings. Although born in Marionville, the family lived in Seneca during her early years and later moved to a farm west of Neosho, MO.

She is survived by a son, Randall W. Capps of Macon, GA, a daughter, Sarah Louise Capps Long and her husband Christopher Long, of Granby, MO, one grandchild, Kirsten Cheyenne Long, and two great grandchildren, Alyssa Marie Wren and Christopher Ray West of Joplin, MO, one brother, Garland and his wife Dottie Crowder of Seneca, MO, and one sister, Mrs. Martha Jane Farley of Neosho, MO.

On March 10, 1957, she married Bobby Wayne Capps, who preceded her in death on August 16, 2004.

She was also preceded in death by her older brother, Joe Dean “Red” Crowder, younger brother Clifford Crowder, and three other younger brothers, Blaine Dale, Everet Don, and Bennie Paul Crowder, all of whom died in infancy.

Mrs. Capps was quite active in her personal and extended family, and it was a very important aspect of her life. She was always the devoted daughter, loving wife and caring mother. She would always be one of the first ones to lend a hand to family, friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Capps worked for a period of time at the Kraft egg processing plant in the early 1950s before her marriage, and later created a career for herself as owner of “Designs of Distinction,” a hair salon, for nearly twenty years, beginning from 1986.

She and her husband also ran a local honey business for many years, starting in the late 1950s. In the early years of their honey business it was not uncommon for Mrs. Capps to drive to the Joplin stockyard on sale days in their 56' Plymouth, spread a tablecloth on the hood and sell quart jars of their wares to increase sales.

She was also an avid CB enthusiast, gaining many lifelong, over-the-air friends who knew her by her handle of “Queen Bee.” Be it CB acquaintances, those whom she met during her years at the hair salon or with neighbors, she had the ability to easily form lifelong friendships with almost anyone she met.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Granby Chapel, Clark Funeral Home, Granby, MO, with Rev. Ashley Edgemon officiating. Interment will follow at Diamond Cemetery, Diamond, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Jamie Kelsey, Jaren Kelsey, Tracy Clonts, Joshua Holden, Doug Hansford, and Alan Farley, Jr.; Jeff Almich, Alan Farley, Sr., Bobby Joe Crowder, Roger Crowder, Steven Crowder, and Randy Hill will be honorary pallbearers.
