Maril Thompson

Maril Linda Thompson, age 84, Joplin, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Joplin Gardens.

She was born September 24, 1937 in Smith County, KS, to the late Virgil Hayes and Emma Scheon Hays.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Delwin and Kyle Hays; and one son, Kenneth Thompson.

Maril was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She served in various positions, including making Christmas and Thanksgiving baskets, making sure there was plenty of food for funeral dinners and the church wedding coordinator. She was an instrumental part of starting the church youth group.

She married Carl Thompson on February 15, 1964 in Harveyville, KS. He survives at the home.

Additional survivors include one son, Michael Thompson and wife, Laura, Joplin; one daughter, Linda Ashworth, Joplin; three grandsons, Ian Thompson, Nicholas Thompson, and Graham Thompson and wife, Jennifer, all of Joplin; one granddaughter, Elise Ashworth, Joplin; two great grandsons, Jackson and Jamison Ashworth; and one sister, Alice Hoag, Fargo, ND.

Funeral services are planned for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Pastor Aaron Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time, with burial following at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in care of the mortuary

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
