Wayne Kennedy

Wayne Alden Kennedy, 95, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. Wayne was born August 27, 1923 in Horton, MO to Ernest L. and Minnie M. (Bowen) Kennedy. He was united in marriage to Thelma Lucille Fengler on November 24, 1945 in Ft. Scott, KS and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2017.

Wayne grew up in the Horton area and attended Metz High School. Following high school he went to Kansas City where he completed a course in Special Aircraft Engine Assembly receiving a diploma from the American Aeronautical Institute in 1942 during WWII. Following the war he came back to the family farm near Horton. Wayne farmed nearly all of his life, and for a time raised chickens. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada where he was active as a Deacon and as a Sunday school teacher. Wayne was an avid quail hunter and frequently hunted with Ed Fengler and Gene Snyder. He was also a fisherman and liked to fish in the ponds on the farm. Wayne enjoyed taking his one trip a year, especially to the ocean, and trips to the Dog Track.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Adams and her husband Darrell, Greenfield, MO, Janet Bley and her husband Allen, Moundville, MO; grandchildren, Christi Miller and her husband Marty, Nevada, Bennie Adams, Nevada, Jennifer Eaton and her husband Travis, Nevada, Nicole Garrett and her husband Nate, Asbury, MO; six great-grandchildren, Hailee Johnson and her husband Rusty, Hanna Miller, Peyton Eaton, Hunter Eaton, Ava Garrett, Trace Garrett. In addition to his wife Thelma, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Nevada with Dr. Bill Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Friends may call now and until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning at Ferry Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
