William Gene 'Bill' Bowman, age 78, Joplin, passed away at 1:22 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Mercy Hospital after a sudden illness.
Bill was born July 3, 1941 in Carthage to the late Joseph Bowman and Wilma Grace Gulick Bowman.
Bill retired from the United States Army, Master Sergeant, serving a tour in the Vietnam War. Following his retirement, he became a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring after twenty years of service.
In his spare time, Bill enjoyed leather working, reading and solving puzzles. He was a member of the Joplin Chapter of Al-Anon and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Bill married Barbara Cole on January 24, 1964 in Joplin. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a son, James Bowman and his wife, Sandra, Cordova, Tennessee; one brother, Jim Bowman, Galena, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Damon Bowman.
Bill has been taken for cremation. No formal services are planned at this time.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
