James A. Metz, age 92, Joplin, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019 at the Communities of Wildwood.
Jim was born November 8, 1926 in Kansas City, KS, the son of the late James A. Metz, Sr. and Dorothy Young Shockley. He spent most of his youth in Erie, Pennsylvania area, and went on to graduate from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio in 1947 with a Bachelor's Degree in History. He went to work for the Gas Company as Office Manager in 1948, and after managing their offices in Warrensburg, Missouri and later Beloit, Kansas he transferred to Joplin in 1959 where he managed their office until his retirement in 1989. Jim was an active member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, having served multiple terms on the vestry.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Beatrice (Bea) L. Baker Metz on January 25, 2015, and his beloved sister, Dr. Florence I. Metz, who passed on June 10, 2016.
He leaves behind two sons, Mark Metz and his wife Lois, and Philip Metz and his wife Sue, all of Joplin, and several grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with Father Frank Sierra officiating.
Inurnment of his ashes next to his late wife, Bea, will follow in St. James Chapel Columbarium at St. Philip Episcopal Church.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
