Andrew C. (Andy) Martin, age 91 of Topeka, KS, formerly a 67-year resident of Joplin, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 in Topeka.
Born August 8, 1922 in Picher, OK, he was the son of the late Andrew C. Martin, Sr. and Bertha Rowland Martin and graduated from Picher High School in 1939. A U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, he trained and obtained certification as an aerial gunner, single engine pilot, B-17 bombardier and was training to be a B-29 flight engineer when the war ended. He worked for over 30 years for GAB and then formed his own insurance claims company, Martin Claim Service. His hobbies included fast-pitch softball and bowling. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Joplin Elk’s Lodge No. 501.
On December 15, 1950 he married Mary F. Staggs. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Susie Martin Allman and her husband Jim of Topeka along with their twin sons, Ben and Sam Allman. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie Martin Myers. Janie’s children are Macy Myers and twin sons, Andrew Myers and Max Myers III.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends preceding the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
