Herb Orton

Herbert E. Orton, age 88, of Golden City, Mo., passed away on Monday February 10, 2014, at Freeman Hospital, following a short illness.

Herbert was born on April 19, 1925 in Joplin, the son of the late Woodson and Stella Orton. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of WWII. During his military career he was awarded three Battle Stars and a Bronze Star. He married Treva Thomas on December 7, 1942. Together they raised three daughters. He was a police officer for the city of Neveda, Mo. He was a charter member of the VFW Post #435, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

He is survived by two daughters, Lori Stump and husband Leon, Golden City, Mo., and Dianna Copher, Webb City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Tammy Moody, Bobbi Burkhart, Misty Copher, Cody Roller, and Isabella Stump; four great-grandchildren, Stephanie Hunter, Chanceton Brown, Brody Burkhart, and Cash Burkhart; and one great-great grandchild, Axil Hunter. He was preceded in death by his wife Treva Orton in 1998; a daughter, Mona Gibson in 2005; and three brothers, Bill Orton, Jazz Orton, and Woodson Orton.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Jeff Quigley will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Galena, Ks. The pallbearers will be Caleb Hunter, Cody Roller, Mikel Burkhart, Chanceton Brown, Mike Orton, Gary Orton, and Robert Elliott.

The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory/
