Harley E. Russell, age 76, of rural Lamar, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at his home.
Harley was born August 6, 1937 at Las Cruces, New Mexico, one of the five children of Herman and Loretta (Fillmore) Russell. He was an over-the-road truck driver for many years, retiring to Oklahoma in 1998 to care for his parents. His father passed away in 2001 and he continued to care for his mother until her death in 2007. Harley was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Russell.
On December 22, 2009, at Lake Village, Arkansas, Harley married Jean Alice Thurber and they moved to Barton County where Harley enjoyed fishing and outdoor Missouri wildlife. He was an active member and trustee of Barton County Eagles #4405.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, of the home; a step-daughter, Kelli Carmona, Horn Lake, Mississippi; a brother, Conley (Sheryl) Russell, Silverdale, Washington; two sisters, Lois (Jim) Kraft, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Retha (C.L.) Squires, Lamar; three step-grandchildren, Taylor Jean Carmona, Matthew Shephard and Joseph Shephard; and several nephews and nieces.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Squires Lakeside Cemetery near Milford, Missouri at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Harley’s family, in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
