Walter Wesley Autry, DDS, age 58, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at his home.
Walter was born March 6, 1955 in Bessemer, Alabama, son of the late Walter Hobson "Hop" Autry, and Elnora Huff Autry of Joplin. He graduated from Parkwood High School in Joplin, and then the University of Missouri in Columbia with a bachelor's degree in Micro Biology. He then earned his DDS from the University of Missouri Dental School in Kansas City. He had practices in Monett, Missouri, St. Louis, Missouri, and Lake of the Ozarks before returning to Joplin in 2009.
Survivors include his daughters, Kellen Autry of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Kendall Autry of Newport Beach, California; his mother, Elnora Autry of Joplin; brothers, Ed Autry and wife Marcia of Joplin, Thomas "Whit" Autry of Columbia, Missouri; sisters, Mary Margaret Smolik and husband Joe of Columbia, and Rebecca Jane Autry also of Columbia; long time companion, Andrea Love, of the home.
As per Walter's request, the family will hold a private, family members only, memorial service at a later date. Also per his request, his life will be celebrated at the Redings Mill Inn, Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Joplin Humane Society care of Parker Mortuary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
