Johnnie Clifford Petty, age 78 of Carthage, MO, passed away at his home at 4:35 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born August 25, 1935 in Houston, MO, he was the son of the late Johnnie Arthur Petty and Sylvia Byrd Petty and lived in the Joplin area most of his lifetime. In his early life he was a truck driver, but most of his career was in construction. He served in the U.S. Army before receiving a medical discharge. He attended Grand Avenue Church of God in Carthage.
On October 24, 1960 he married Ruby Eileen Wilson at Miami, OK. She survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Lois Denise Bishop of Webb City, Rose Ann Lee of Joplin; a son, Johnnie Lee Petty of Carthage; four sisters, Geraldine Rundle and husband Alonzo of Carterville, Sarah Coleman of Webb City, Alice Velasquez and husband Pedro of Sunnyside, WA, Donna Treat of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, a brother and a stepson, Dennis Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Chuck Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Wild Rose Cemetery at Webb City with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
