Darold M. Cannon, age 96, Joplin, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Galena Nursing Center after an illness.
Darold was born March 10, 1917 in Joplin to the late Hugh Cannon and Maurine Mays Cannon and had lived in Joplin most of his life.
He worked at Ozark Sheet Metal for over 50 years. In his spare time, Darold volunteered at the Joplin Senior Citizens Center and Freeman Hospital. He enjoyed woodworking and became quite gifted at making or fixing things for people. Darold was a long time and faithful member of Blendville Christian Church and was proud to be a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps.
He married Ella Mae Butts on October 15, 1940. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2003.
He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jerry Hughey; and brother-in-law, Leo Wright.
Survivors include a daughter, Dana Hughey, Joplin; a sister, Gerry Wright, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; three granddaughters, Suzi Hughey-Hoskins and her husband, Mike, Joplin, Sandi Hughey, Kansas City, Terrla Cruse and her husband, J.E., Joplin; two great granddaughters, Isabella and Lauren Cruse, Joplin; and a special friend, Vivian Pendergraft.
Services are planned for Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Blendville Christian Church. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be J.E. Cruse, Mike Hoskins, Lee Combs, Steve Aggus, Kevin Maples and Tommy Greer. Honorary pallbearer will be Phillip VanWinkle. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4-5:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Senior Citizens Center, in care of Parker Mortuary.
