(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Harold Claude Hoofnagle, age 91 passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6th, 2023 after a lengthy illness at Joplin Gardens in Joplin, Mo.
He was born April 18th, 1932 in Joplin to Minford and Mabel (Riddle) Hoofnagle, the fourth of six children. He attended Joplin High School through the 11th grade, but left before graduating to enlist in the Navy. He was stationed in Seattle, Washington and San Diego during the Korean War.
Harold married Phyllis (Willard) in 1957, and they were blessed with two children, Hal and Brenda. He retired from his position as Risk Manager at Missouri American Water Company in 1992 after a lengthy career there.
Harold loved God and his family dearly. No one could ask for a better husband, father, grandfather, or great-grandfather. He read his Bible faithfully and spent a lot of time in prayer. He made it a point to witness to the people who came to his room in the hospital or nursing homes. Everyone from the doctors to the housekeepers were told about Jesus Christ.
Harold’s hobby was fishing. He loved to spend time at the river or lake fishing with friends and family.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leon Hoofnagle; and two sisters, Winona McKee and Carol Sawyer.
Harold is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis (Willard) Hoofnagle; son, Hal Hoofnagle (Shelly); daughter, Brenda Warthen (Ed); grandchildren, Adam Hoofnagle, Staci Watson (Josh), Becca Todd (Josh), and Nate Warthen (Cheynne). Harold was also the proud great-grandpa of twelve and had one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are two sisters; Mary Stephens and Helen Wallace both of California.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12th, 2023 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Reverend John Swadley officiating. Burial will follow at Stone Cemetery, near Diamond, Mo. with Military Honors. Friends and family may visit the mortuary Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for open visitation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
