(From Ulmer Funeral Home)Eldon Barthol Mize, 88, of Joplin, Missouri, formerly of Wichita Kansas, passed away on September 4, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children.
Eldon was born November 18, 1934, in Lawrence County Missouri to Harry Eldon Mize and Gladys Doll (Guinn) Mize. His parents were ranchers and raised Black Angus Cattle. He graduated from Sarcoxie High School where he was active in the 4H Club.
Eldon met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Baugh and after marriage moved to Wichita, Kansas and was blessed with 6 children. Eldon and Pat built their lives around family and close friends. His house was filled with family every holiday with no less than 30 people celebrating together.
After retirement from the Boeing Company, Eldon and Pat enjoyed traveling, gardening, building things in his basement workshop and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a decades long Kansas City Chiefs fan and attended as many games as possible. He even taught his beloved dog Scooter to do the Chiefs chop.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Phyllis Burgher his eldest son Daniel Eldon Mize and his Granddaughter Destiny Pendleton. He is survived by his wife Patricia Mize, his children Deborah (Walter) Derish, Katherine (Derek) White, David (Svitlana) Mize, Susan (Steven) Poulson, Sandra (Joe) Pendleton, 10 Grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his dog Casper.
His Family loved him dearly, and he will be forever remembered for his quiet strength, his enormous heart, his incredible kindness, his dry wit, his integrity, and his deep wisdom.
A service will be held for Eldon at 2:00 PM Monday September 11, 2023, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage Missouri. The burial will be at Fasken Cemetery in Carthage following the service.
