John Phillips

John J. Phillips, 71, of rural Mound Valley, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at his home near Mound Valley.

He was born on July 2, 1952, at Parsons to Jesse and Kathleen (Frost) Philips. He grew up near Mound Valley and in Colorado where he attended schools. 

After high school, John served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1973.








John later graduated from the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa OK. He worked as a self-employed Aircraft mechanic and inspector.

He enjoyed working on aircraft, computers, mechanics, creative engineering, and working on cars.

John and Sandra Lee Stewart were married. They later divorced, but John always considered Sandy the love of his life, they were together at the time of her passing in 2015.








John is survived by his daughter, Crystal Stafford, and her husband, Tim of Claremore, OK: stepson, Justin McKenzie and his wife Rapassa of Reno, NV: two granddaughters, Kaitlin Wright, and her husband, Kevin of Bartlesville, OK and Ratchel Alloway of Bartlesville, OK; two great-grandsons, Langston Billings and Hollis Wright of Bartlesville, OK; his brother, Jerry Phillips, and his companion, Debbie Taylor of Carl Junction; his sisters, Marsha Phillips and her two sons, Isaac and Matthew of Carl Junction and Allie McDougal, and her husband, Brian of Hot Springs, AR; Darrell Phillips and his wife Karen; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Hal "Bub" Norton.

Private family services will be held later. Memorials are suggested to the Labette County Sheriff’s office, Mound Valley Fire Department, or to the Mound Valley Flagpole Festival and these may be left at or mailed to the Carson-Wall Funeral Home 112 N. 26th St., P.O.
