(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Eugene Edward Ewers, 80, of Carl Junction, Missouri, peacefully passed away on January 8, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo.
Gene was born on March 7 to Paul and Bernice (Burkman) in St. Paul, Nebraska. He graduated from St. Paul High School and embarked on a lifelong career in the manufacturing industry.
With humble beginnings as a janitor in Grand Island, Nebraska, Gene progressed through various roles at several locations within Chief Industries. His journey concluded with his retirement in 2000 as the General Manager of Chief’s recreational vehicle plant, King of the Road, located in Russell, Kansas.
Gene married the love of his life, Patricia (Lee), in 1962 in St. Paul. They shared 42 wonderful years until her passing in 2004. Gene was also preceded in death by his parents and his older sister Shirley Buck of Grand Island.
Gene is survived by his five children: Todd (Mary) of Wichita, Kan., Tracie (John) VanBecelaere of Pittsburg, Kan., Troy (Robin) of Baxter Springs, Kan., Travis (Danielle) of Russell, and Talby (Amy) of Carl Junction. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his grandchildren: David (Kristy) McCaslin, Mattie (Nate) Toney, Jacob (Elizabeth) Ewers, David (Karli) Ewers, Eric (Addy) Ewers, Cheyanne Ewers, Gabrielle VanBecelaere, Garrett VanBecelaere, Garrett Ewers, Dalton VanBecelaere, Gavin Ewers, Wyatt Ewers, David Ewers, Emmalyne Ewers, Abigail Ewers, Shawn Ewers, and Laney Ewers, as well as his seven great- grandchildren. Gene is also survived by his sisters Arlene Jepson, Cindi Mendyk, and a brother, Dick Ewers.
In addition to his dedication to family and career, Gene was an avid supporter of the Nebraska
Cornhuskers, always enjoying sports and cheering for his favorite team. He was especially known for his Christmas Eve shopping trips and his knack for selecting the perfect gifts.
A graveside service and a celebration of Gene's life will be held later this spring.

loved him.
