John Schumacher

(From Brown-Winters Funeral Home)

John Heman Schumacher of San Marcos, Texas passed from his mortal life to his eternal one on Monday, May 27th, 2024, surrounded by a loving family.
John built a life of family, friends, and faith for 79 years on this earth, beginning on a farm where there were cows to be milked and a horse named Bob who plowed the fields. He built memories of beautiful places, powerful wisdom, card games, fishing and hunting trips, prayers, and delicious meals around his table where his family gathered each Sunday.

He was born June 22nd, 1944, in Vinita, Oklahoma to Floyd Lawrence Schumacher who grew giant tomatoes and Lorraine Lucille La Duke who made the best cinnamon rolls. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Lawrence and George.

John graduated in 1962 from Welch High School then from NEO Junior College with an associate’s degree. He went on to further studies at Missouri Southern University, Joplin, MO and Kent State University, Kent, OH.

He began his technical career at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, OK in 1966. He then joined BF Goodrich Company in Miami, OK as a Programmer and Analyst before being transferred to Akron, OH as Project Manager, where he met his best friend Bill Mikesell (“Ruf”), and his wife Joan. In 1984, he was promoted to Director of Information Systems with Ameripol Synpol in Port Neches, TX where he retired in 2000. John was once again promoted, this time to personal chef and valet to his wife Diana until she finally retired, and they moved to the Texas Hill Country.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diana Sill Schumacher, his two children, Stacie Taylor and husband Scott, and Gregory and wife Elaine, as well as his four grandchildren Cassie, Bryce and wife Kayla, Alex and wife Victoria, and Matthew and girlfriend Chelsea, also his brothers Joe and wife Janie, Jim and wife Maureen, and Mark and wife Cindy, and his sisters Shirley Miller, Darlena Winton, Linda Triece and husband Robert, and Virginia Ann Hart and husband Charlie, brother-in-law Pat Sill and wife Reba, and sister-in-law Becky Tarwater and husband Rick, as well as many nieces and nephews.

John was a proud member of the National Guard beginning in 1966 where he was discharged after six years as a Sergeant E5. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus since 1971. John had many titles, boss, friend, bartender, fishing guide, therapist, and confidant, but to us he was husband, father, brother, and mostly “Pappa.”

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miami 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Interment will follow at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Miami under the Care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in his memory to Center of Family Love (PO Box 245, Okarche, OK 73762) or a charity of your choosing.
