(From Parker Mortuary)Helen W. James, age 93, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at her home with family at her side.
Helen was born June 11, 1931 on the family farm in rural Greenwood County, Kansas near the town of Quincy. She was the eldest daughter of Bill and Georgie Truman Wright. She had a brother, Victor, and three sisters, Nancy, Dorothy, and Linda. Victor, Linda, and Nancy preceded her in death.
Her early years were spent on the family farm. She moved to Planeview, near Wichita, as World War II began. Helen was a teacher in Wichita for 40 years. She had been a member of the Madison Avenue United Methodist Church in Derby and Dellrose Methodist Church in Wichita and she was currently a member of First Community Church of Joplin. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Bestor G. Brown Lodge Order of the Eastern Star. She moved to Joplin in 2022.
On December 27, 1952 she married her Junior High Sweetheart, Bobby D. James in Wichita. Her cherished husband preceded her in death on April 8, 1995. Helen married Charles Mansfield, and they celebrated 28 happy years together.
Helen is survived by her two daughters, Georganne Bradbury and husband Rick of Terlingua, TX, and Janet Kice and husband Dick of Joplin; four grandchildren, Johnny Bradbury and wife Kelli of Manvel, TX, Ali Finley and husband Andrew of Austin, TX, Ryan Kice of Joplin, and Andy Kice and wife Lisa of Louisburg, KS; six great-grandchildren, Caleb, Caitlyn, Jaynie, Levi, Memphis, and Cash; a sister, Dorothy Jones of Las Vegas, NV; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita, KS with family officiating.
Interment will be next to her husband, Bobby, in Lakeview Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
