(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Thomas Henry Thompson, age 84, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage, Missouri.
Thomas was born February 2, 1940, in Omaha, Nebraska to John Thompson and Matilda (Helfrich) Thompson. Thomas was the youngest of three children.
On October 22, 1959, he married his loving wife Georgia Jean Worley in Grandview, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2016. A son, John David Thompson, preceded both Georgia and Tommy in death on March 30, 1963.
Preceding Thomas in death are his parents John Thompson Sr. and Matilda (Helfrich) Thompson, and his brother John Thompson Jr.
Thomas is survived by a sister Elsie Jean Pattison, Garden Grove, CA; his daughter, Brenda K Geeding and husband Tommy of Carthage, Missouri and James R Thompson, of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Michele R Bray and husband Michael of Milliken, Colorado, Nicholas D Geeding and wife Erin of Carthage, Missouri; Michael T Allbright and wife Ronnie; of Springfield, Missouri; Brandon J Thompson of Joplin, Missouri and James A Thompson of Joplin, Missouri and twelve great-grandchildren, and many other extended family members.
Thomas lived in the rural Joplin area since 1976. Thomas was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved his country and served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. He worked for many years as a truck driver for Belger’s Cartage in Kansas City and for Lonestar Trucking.
A funeral service has been scheduled for 1:00 pm Thursday, December 12, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2107 S. Indiana Ave, Joplin.
Family will receive friends and visitors at 12:00 pm prior to the service. Burial to follow at Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin.
Memorial contributions can be made payable to the Disabled American Veterans in care of the mortuary.
