(From Parker Mortuary)Melvin Ray Young, age 73 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Melvin was born July 18, 1951 in Galena, Kansas to the late Billy and Betty (Stripling) Young.
Melvin graduated from Galena High School and was immediately drafted in the U.S. Army before being honorably discharged. He later became a certified mechanic through Franklin Technology and worked for over 20 years with Gene’s Midwest Auto. Melvin was a long-standing member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1161. He was an avid Harley Davidson rider and spent countless hours at the bowling alley.
Surviving Melvin include his son, Melvin R. Young, II of Junction City, OR; daughters, Shannon Clark (Matt) of Portland, OR and Connie Rees (Shane) of Carthage, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a special friend Angie Easley of Kirksville, Missouri.
Other than his parents, Melvin is preceded in death by a grandson, Raylen; brothers, Wayne Dunn, Marion Young, Carl Young; and a sister, Sheila Boydston.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
