Lloyd Earl Southern, 82 of Carl Junction, passed away August 5, 2019 at 8:30 pm at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 26, 1937 in Pittsburgh, KS he was the son to the late Wallace and Anna (Force) Southern.

Lloyd graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1955 where he played all sports and was active in the FFA. He attended Pittsburg State University for one and a half years, but he decided that college wasn’t for him. His true passion in life was farming.

In 1960 he was drafted into the Army and eventually shipped to Bamberg, Germany where he was stationed for 2 years. He was in Company E 1st Brigade 15th infantry. He was nicknamed Ox because he was a country boy who wasn’t afraid of anything. While in the service he attended Church every Sunday and it made him feel close to home. He came home in August of 1962 where he began farming with his Father.

On May 4, 1968 he married Joyce Adaline Steffens of Kansas City. They lived on the farm for 29 years raising 3 children. She lost her battle with cancer on November 13, 1997.

In February of 2000, he married Karen Wills Fenix, she survives. Lloyd was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where he was very active and on the cemetery board. He always said, to have a good neighbor you had to be a good neighbor. He was admired by so many people for the way he lived his life. He never met a stranger and was always helping out anyone that needed it. He dedicated his life to God and his Family and to Farming. He always told his kids and grandkids to put God first and then Family. He spent many hours at sporting events watching his kids and later his grandkids play. He was a loving son, brother, husband, Father, Papa and Friend.
