Tom Geisert

Thomas Chapman Geisert, 84, of Carthage died on Saturday, August 10, 2019. He was born on November 13, 1934 in Carthage, Missouri to Victor and Mildred Chapman Geisert. He was a 1952 graduate of Carthage Senior High School where he excelled in sports. He attended Pittsburg State University graduating in 1956 with a BS in Business Administration.

Tom was married to Ann Isbell on August 26, 1961 who preceded him in death in 2013. He was also preceded in death by one son, Timothy Geisert, his parents, and in-laws, Dr. & Mrs. C.H. Isbell. 

He is survived by one daughter, Amy Grimes and husband, Jimmy; granddaughters Katie Pence, and Emily Pence; step-grandchildren, Megan Adams (Jimmy), and Taylor Grimes; great granddaughter, Miss Clarke Davis; step great grandchildren Jenevieve and Violet Adams; sister Jean Comer of Fort Worth, Texas; nephew Tom Comer (Amy) of Nashville, Tennessee; niece, Julie Scott (C.T.) of Fort Worth; great nieces Emily Boydston (Michel) of Fort Worth, and Hillary Morgan (Taylor) of Fayetteville; brother and sister in-law Eddie and Mary Isbell; and nephew Jamie all of Carthage. 

He started his business career at Big Smith in Carthage. He served in the National Guard and was called to active duty in 1957. He served there for ten years and retired as a 1st Lieutenant in 1968. Following active duty, he returned to work at Big Smith as an assistant sales manager. He joined Leggett & Platt in 190 where he served as Group Vice President of the Bedding Component Division.
Tom was involved in many civic activities. He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church and served on the vestry for several terms. He served on the Board of Directors of the Carthage Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors of both the old YMCA and Fair Acres YMCA, St. Luke’s Nursing Home, and Broadview Country Club. He was a member of the Carthage School Board during the 1970s. In 2002 he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of McCune-Brooks Hospital. He also held a seat on the Mercy Joplin Board as Carthage representative. He was also President of Carthage Rotary from 1968 to 1969. 

Visitation will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on Friday, August 16, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Services for Tom will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 10:00 am at Grace Episcopal Church. Memorial may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or McCune-Brooks Healthcare Foundation in care of the Knell Mortuary.
