Bob Covey

Robert Wayne “Bob” Covey, Sr., age 90, Magnolia, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Mercy of Joplin.

Bob was born September 15, 1931 in Springfield, Missouri, son of the late Hugh Covey and Beatrice Vangunda Covey. He grew up in Joplin and graduated from Joplin High School. He worked at Rocketdyne in Neosho for some time before beginning his career as a glazier. He worked in Joplin, and then moved to Texas where he worked on high rise buildings in Dallas, and later Houston, Texas. He has lived in Magnolia, Texas since 1980.








He loved his family and was a Little League Coach for over 30 years, taking two teams to the State Title in Texas, and was one game away from the Little League World Series. He and his wife became like second parents to many of the children they helped over the years. He was a member of Faith Temple Baptist Church in Spring, Texas where he worked with the youth programs, mentoring many over the year. He also enjoyed the friends he made serving with the Masonic Lodge #335, and the Abou Ben Adhem Shriners of Springfield. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force with the 301st Field Maintenance Squadron. Bob was an avid recreational and competition fisherman and told tales as big as the fish he caught.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Marie Covey, who passed away on May 9, 2017. Sisters Juanita Winston, Wilma Jean Flynn, Mary Sutton, brothers Richard Covey and Howard Covey.

Survivors include his six children, Robert Covey, Jr. (Annie) of Joplin, Benjamin Covey (Linda) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dennis Covey (Tracy) of Neosho, and Pastor Ed Covey (Brandi) of Joplin, Marie Russell (Dwane) of Shawnee, Kansas, and Theresa Bateman (Shaun) of Bauxite, Arkansas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Friday, March 25, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with his son, Pastor Ed Covey officiating. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
