Tammy Doty

Valoise “Tammy” Ann Doty, age 66, of Jasper, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Freeman in Joplin.

Tammy, daughter of the late Verle and Velma (Forgue) Gilbert, was born on September 17, 1955 in Hartville, MO.

Family was the main focus of Tammy’s life. She had a strong work ethic and after returning to the Joplin area in 1996 she went to work for family at Babe’s Drive Inn where she worked until her retirement in December. Tammy was excited for her retirement, being able to have the freedom to do things she had longed to do, gardening, traveling, and spending more time with family. She was known to her family as “their angel,” always putting others and family first. Tammy also gave in death as she gave in life, and will continue to be an angel for others as an organ and tissue donor.

Survivors include her children, Charity Doty, of Jasper, and Michael Doty, of Stillwater; siblings, Verlene Davenport, of Joplin, Verle Gilbert JR., and his wife, Vicki, of Jasper, Vern Gilbert, of Jasper, Veda Perrin, and her husband, Jim, of Sarcoxie, Vickie Gilbert, of Jasper, Valora Daniels, and her husband, Paul, of Joplin, Vernetta Swihart, and her husband, Ron, of Wichita, and Varonica Gilbert, of San Antonio; bonus children, Carrie Givens, of Joplin, Angel Berends, of Seneca, and Eugene Terry; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Velda “Kay” Clark; and her fiancé, Gerald Terry.

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 1:00 PM at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Joplin with The Reverend Brian Straus celebrant. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, March 23rd beginning at 5:00 PM with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to Midwest Transplant Organ Donation and may be entrusted to the mortuary.
