Ralph Williams

Mr. Ralph Edward Williams, 91, a lifelong resident of Southwest City, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, March 14, 2022, at Oak Pointe in Neosho, Missouri.

Ralph entered this life on September 10, 1930, in Southwest City, Missouri, one of four sons born to the late Willard Richard and Maude (Asher) Williams. He was raised in Southwest City and was a 1948, graduate of Southwest City High School. 








On April 20, 1957, he was united in marriage to Doris Hatfield and together they shared forty-five years before her passing on June 2, 2002. 

Besides being a poultry and cattleman, Ralph owned and operated Ralph’s Electric and Plumbing Company for over forty years. Following retirement, Ralph made the decision to enter public service. He served as Western Commissioner of McDonald County as well as the McDonald County Public Administrator. Ralph was a 33rd Degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Joplin, the Eastern Star and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Mosque in Springfield. 

He served as Water Superintendent of Southwest City, former Southwest City Fire Chief, member of the 4-H and the McDonald County Republican Club, life member of the Angus Cattle Association, Farm Family Alumni, charter member of the Southwest City Masonic Lodge DeMolay Chapter and a member of the United Methodist Church. 

Ralph was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, camping, canoeing, gigging and on occasion, bowling. Ralph was a Veteran of the United States Army National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Doris Williams; a granddaughter, Kim Moorman; and three brothers, Oren, Frank and Fred Williams.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Alice Williams, whom he married on May 5, 2005. Additional survivors include his five children, Mary Payne and husband, Randall, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Jenny Dunkle and husband, Rob, of Joplin, Missouri, Teresa Moorman and husband, Ivan Shouse, of Bentonville, Arkansas, David Cooley and wife, Laura, of Windsor, Missouri and Joe Cooley and wife, Starla, of Columbia, Missouri; two stepchildren, Sonja Ecton and husband, Bob, of Barnhart, Missouri and John Whitney of Potosi, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Williams are 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning, March 19, 2022, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Dale Richardson officiating. Private family interment will take place at the Southwest City Cemetery. Those honoring his life by serving as honorary pallbearers are Tommy Williams, Jerry Hutchins, Doug Switzer, Larry Vancuren, Don Chaney, Ron Miller and Jeff Payne. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 4-6:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with a Masonic Service to begin at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are being directed to Shriners Hospital for Children or the Southwest City Cemetery Care Fund c/o the funeral home.
