Shelia Mossman

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Shelia Dianne Mossman (Baldwin) entered through Heaven’s gates on Sunday March 13, 2022 after a hard fought battle with pneumonia. The strongest lady to walk this earth has finally made it home. She left this life surrounded by her three daughters, whom she loved more than life itself.

In the days leading up to her passing, she was able to spend time with her family, sharing smiles and laughs, hugs and high fives, posing for pictures and creating final memories that each of us will cherish forever.

On Friday, the room was filled with her pride and joy, as her 3 daughters, son-in-law, 8 grandchildren and Mr. John we all able to, as a family, embrace her with their love one last time. Her smile was a bright as the sun that day as she looked at each one of her family members with a level of pride that was certainly unmatched.

Shelia was born in Springfield, MO, on December 24, 1948, giving her siblings the best Christmas present ever. She grew up in a variety of places, graduating high school from Belvidere High School in Belvidere, Illinois. She attended college prior to joining the Gospel Sounds – a gospel singing group. She was ordained with the Assemblies of God in 1976. She attended Faith Assembly of God in Joplin for 25 years.

After having her 3 daughters, she pursued a career in nursing, obtaining the following degrees - RN, BSN and eventually her MHA in Health care administration.

Throughout her career, she spent time as a floor nurse, a hospice nurse, a home health nurse, and eventually a Director of Nursing for long term care facilities. If you knew her throughout her career, there is no doubt you had a firsthand view of the compassion she carried for each of her patients. She worked tirelessly to ensure that each person she cared for knew that they mattered. She treated her staff with the same respect – spending time to train each to care for the patients as if they were family.

In 2010, Shelia retired from her career, allowing her time to spend with her family. Over the past several years she enjoyed traveling the country with her friend Mr. John, visiting her daughters, and watching her grandchildren play sports.

She is survived by: Amber Mills (Rev. Greg Mills, Brandyn, Zach, Camryn, and Kyle) - Camdenton, MO; Dr. Tiffany Dirks (Josh Dirks, Ella, Belle, Beau, and Ivy Jo) – Olathe, KS; Torey Burnett (Chris Fox) – Joplin, MO; and John Anderson – Bentonville, AR; 1 sister, 3 brothers, and countless nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Josh Dirks, her parents - Mansell and Mary Baldwin, and her brother Jim Baldwin.

Shelia was a very loved mom, grandma, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin and friend. She lived her life for Jesus and has finally been welcomed home. All who know and love her will miss her forever.

A Memorial service will be held Wednesday March 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Mason Woodard Mortuary, Joplin, MO. The family will receive friends and visitors at 10:00 a.m. immediately preceding the service.
