Naomi Campbell

Naomi Maxine Campbell, age 92, Joplin, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022 in Lamar, Missouri.

Maxine was born August 3, 1929 in Jasper, Missouri, daughter of the late William Maples and Juanita (Davis) Maples. She grew up in Alba, one of 11 children, and graduated from Alba High School. 

She enjoyed her career with St. John’s Hospital in Joplin for over 37 years. She was a nurse’s aide and Scope Tech before retiring in 2001.






 She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church over the years, and after the tornado had been attending St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. She loved her family and was a big fan of her grandchildren. She will be missed by many.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Campbell who passed away on December 17, 2006. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Maples and Tom Maples; two sisters, Shirley Jiles and Patricia Busby; and a stepson, Mike Campbell.

She is survived by her sons, Pierre Michaud and wife Judy, and Phil Michaud and wife Mary all of Joplin; daughters, Regina Haynes of Webb City, Jacquelyn Michaud of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Cheri Michaud of Tulsa, Oklahoma; stepchildren, Jay W. Campbell, Jr. of Joplin, and Connie Campbell of Kansas City, Missouri; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, John Maples, Jim Maples, Carl Maples, Don Maples, and Gene Maples; a sister, Betty Priester; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with The Rev. Joe Weidenbenner officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with members of the Knights of Columbus serving as pallbearers.

A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. followed by a visitation until 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
