(From Parker Mortuary)Mary Jean Morton, age 55, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at her home.
Mary was born April 1, 1966 in Silver, Texas, daughter of the late Dennis Bassinger and Sherry (Bynum) Bassinger of Rotan, Texas. She grew up in Texas, and graduated from Post High School, Post, Texas.
She owned Joplin Christian Academy where she also worked as a High School teacher and was a faithful member of Bethel Worship Center of Joplin. She loved being with children, and loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren. She showed a true heart of Christ and helped many people over the years. She just seemed to find someone in need and had a servant’s heart to help. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her husband, Scott Morton; daughters, Jessica Gipson of Buffalo, New York, Gabriella Dimech and husband Justin of Jackson, New Jersey, Brook Demm and husband Keith, and Dorothy Gipson all of Joplin; grandchildren, Caleb Gipson and Gibson Jacob; her mother, Sherry Bassinger of Rotan, Texas; three sisters, Joy Sims and husband Jody of Slaton, Texas, Patricia Parish and husband Timothy of Robert Lee, Texas, and D’Linda Benham and husband Greg of Rotan, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Friday, April 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Worship Center with Pastor Gary Culp officiating. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
