(From Knell Mortuary)Judith Ann Mims, 81, Joplin, Missouri, passed away Saturday evening, March 19, 2022, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. Judith was born September 10, 1940, in Hennessey, Oklahoma, the daughter of Lester Dixon and Marguerite (Walterscheidt) Dixon. She was a graduate of Merced High School in Merced, California.
Judith was preceded in death by her first husband, on June 21, 1969, due to combat action in Vietnam. She then married Max B. Mims on February 4, 1970, in Merced, California; he preceded her in death on April 6, 2000. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Carthage where she was involved with the Altar Society.
Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl Ann Bloomer (Clark), Mary Colleen Baldwin (Matt), and Marie Bernadette Mims; four sons, Robert E. Freitas, Jr., Richard A. Freitas (Sara), Michael A. Freitas (Diane), and Max B. Mims II (Dana); a brother, Robert Dixon; two sisters, Carolyn Walker, and Kathy Van Valkenburgh; twenty grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Marguerite Dixon; a sister, Shirley Lancaster; and two grandsons, Michael Casey Baldwin, and Zachary Douglas Bloomer.
Funeral mass will be held 10 am, Friday, March 25, 2022, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Carthage. Burial will follow the mass at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Recitation of the Rosary will be from 5:00 – 5:30 pm, Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, with visitation to follow until 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
