Gene “Breezy” Armstrong, of Lamar, Missouri died Friday, June 23, 2017 at Barton County Memorial Hospital at the age of 84.
Gene was born April 14, 1933 in Golden City, Missouri to Birdie Thurman. He attended a county grade school in Golden City, and later attended the Aurora High School. On June 30, 1951, he married Wanda Childers and together they had one son. After 37 years of marriage, she passed on January 20, 1988. On November 25, 1988, he married Joy (Walters) Henderson and she survives of the home.
Gene operated Breezy’s Barber Shop in Aurora for many years and retired from the Army National Guard in 1987 after 22 years of service. He was a member of Fundamentalist Methodist in Aurora, as well as a member of the Masons and VFW. Restoring, Racing, and Trading cars was one of his passions. He loved going to car races and attending basketball games of his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife Joy; one son Tony Armstrong and wife Terre, Springfield, Missouri; a step-son Jeff Henderson and wife Dorene, Kansas City, Missouri; a step-daughter, Annette Mayfield and husband Roger, Lamar, Missouri; grandchildren, Jenna (Nathan) Gibbs, Sean Armstrong, Claire (Brandon) Plank, Alex Henderson, Derek Henderson, Michael Henderson, Courtney Mayfield, and Erin Mayfield; great grandchildren, Bowen Plank and Gracie Gibbs who will arrive in August; two brothers-in-law, Hosea (Phillis) Gold, Republic, Missouri and Max (Debbie) Walters, Lamar, Missouri; a sister-in-law Jill (Carter) Pugh, Lamar, Missouri.
Service were held Monday, June 26, 2017 at Daniel Funeral Home.
Burial will be 10:00 am, Wednesday July 5, 2017 at Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora, Missouri.
Contributions are suggested to St. Jude Childrens Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
