Lucille Braeckel Duncan, age 99, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at NHC HealthCare in Joplin.
Lucille was born August 16, 1917 in Joplin, Missouri, to the late Marcus and Augusta (Albers) Braeckel. Lucille was raised in Joplin and she graduated from Joplin High School. On June 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to Floyd Earl Duncan and together they shared 65 years of marriage before his passing on December 15, 2005. Lucille was a devoted homemaker for many years, raising her four children and taking care of her home. Later, she worked outside of the home as the cafeteria manager at McAuley High School for many years. Lucille had a great love for sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilt making and she made a blanket for each one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Joplin.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her four children, Steven F. Duncan of Joplin, Missouri, Kenneth J. Duncan and wife, Beverly, of Pacific, Missouri, Barbara A. Claxton and husband, Doug, of Joplin and Susan M. Howell and husband, John, of Joplin; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Duncan is 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2017 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Joplin with Rev. J Friedel officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 18, with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to St. Peter’s Catholic Church in care of the mortuary. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
