Mr. Kenneth Robert Roach, 79, of Reeds, Missouri, a longtime area educator and farmer went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday evening, June 17, 2017 in the comfort of his home.
Kenneth entered this life on February 1, 1938 in El Reno, Oklahoma to the union of the late Woodrow Wilson and Della Asberie (Hendren) Roach. Kenny spent his formative years in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and in 1960 graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma with a degree in Mathematics. After graduation he taught in Platte City, Missouri for two years, later teaching in Anderson, Missouri. In 1964 he began teaching in the Joplin School district, first at North Junior High, then Memorial High School and later retiring from Joplin High School in 1990. After retirement he taught an additional ten years in the Sarcoxie School district. Kenneth was also engaged in full time farming. He enjoyed being on the farm, fishing and hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. Kenneth was very active with his sons in Boy Scouts. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, both Scottish Rite and York Rite. He also had been very supportive of Linda, participating in Relay for Life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Linda; one brother, Ed Roach; sister-in-law, Mary Roach and brother-in-law, Todd Wofford.
Kenneth is survived by his children, Eric Roach and wife, Kim, of Reeds, Missouri, Keith Roach and wife, Heidi, of Carmel, Indiana, Brenna Hall of Reeds, Missouri, son-in-law, Randy Hall of Avilla, Missouri and Whitney Franklin and husband, Bob, of Lincoln, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren, Mason, Rae-Lynn, Mallory, Brayden, Kylee, Hannah, Kendall, Beau, Tynleigh, Irelynn and Ethan; three great grandchildren, Ava, Gunner and Sterling; one brother Paul Roach of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; two sisters, Shirley Wofford, Mannford, Oklahoma and Pat Hendrickson and husband, Henry, of Prague, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Trish Roach of Vassar, Michigan; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Roach are 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Roach and Reverend Bill Hemm officiating. Burial will follow in Sarcoxie Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Loyd Patterson, Bob Franklin, Jeff Hemm, J.D. Whitledge, Steve Pearish and Jim Collins. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne “Doc” Gillman, Ed Sanders, Gerald Hendren, Paul Roach, Henry Hendrickson, Bill Gollhofer and Bill McNeece. The family has requested memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Standing at the Cross Christian Church and may be left at the funeral home.
