Petronella M. Du Plessis (Pennie) (78 years 6 months and 17 days), passed away at 04h05 on Wednesday morning - June 28, 2017 at her home near Monett, MO. She was born in Springs, South Africa on December 11, 1938, the daughter of Johan and Nellie Joubert. She is survived by her only sister, Ria de Beer of Pretoria, South Africa, her children Kobus and Patsy of Monett, Pierre and Marshona of Westville, South Africa, Stefan of Seneca, SC and daughters in-law Madie of Cumming, GA and Yris of Port Elizabeth, South Africa . She is also survived by eight grand children and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband—Steve, parents, and brother.
Pennie was a bookkeeper, controller and partner, with her husband in their Electrical Contractor business for over 16 years. After her husband passed away in 1985, she continued with the business for several more years.
She retired in 1995 and emigrated to the USA in 2001 to settle in Monett, MO where she lived with her eldest son and daughter in law, Kobus and Patsy.
Pennie was a distinguished seamstress. She was well known for her custom window treatments and decorative cushions she made for several Interior Decorators in Joplin and Springfield over the years. Many of her handmade items were featured in the 417 Magazine.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017 at NewSiteBaptistChurch in Monett. Funeral services will directly follow and begin at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Aaron Weibel will be officiating. Interment will be at NewSiteCemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Mercy Hospice in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
