(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)Mrs. Josephine M. Summers, 93, of Webb City, Missouri, formerly of Joplin, departed this life on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Westgate in Joplin, after a recent decline in health.
Josephine entered this life on December 4, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, one of five children born to the late Clifford Joseph and Marion Margaret (Schiffert) Casey. She was raised in Chicago where she graduated from Mercy High School.
On November 24, 1956, she was united in marriage to Mark Summers and to this union three children were born, Michael, William and Mary.
Josephine was a devoted homemaker throughout her life, residing in Joplin since 1956. She was a longtime faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin where she gave her time and service in various needs. She also volunteered for many years at St. John’s Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mark Summers on June 29, 2000; and all four of her siblings, Patricia, Clifford, Jr., Richard and Geraldine.

Josephine is survived by her three children, Michael Summers of Las Vegas, Nevada, William Summers and wife, Elizabeth, of Springfield, Missouri and Mary Palmer and husband, Keith, of Webb City; five grandchildren, Ethan Palmer (Kinsey), Brittany Hargis (Bristol), Carye Summers, Ben Summers, and Alex Summers; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin with Father Joe Weidenbenner officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. The family will receive friends on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are being directed to Society of St. Vincent de Paul c/o the mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
