(From Knell Mortuary)James Edward “Jim” Hughes, 81, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 5, 2023, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri.
Jim was born April 4, 1941, in Neosho, Missouri, the son of Edward Hughes and Olive (Jeffries) Hughes. He was a 1959 graduate of Neosho High School.
Jim married Donna Christerson on November 20, 1969, in Goodman, Missouri. Jim worked as a mechanic, and alongside his brothers, he owned and operated Hughes Brothers Garage in Neosho, Missouri.
Jim owned his own racecar and enjoyed racing, he enjoyed woodworking and collecting old model cars, but most of all, he loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Donna Hughes; three daughters, Lynn Judd (Mark), Granby, Missouri, Sandra Hughes, Carthage, Missouri, and Heather Hughes, Carthage, Missouri; a grandson, J.P. Judd; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Olive Hughes; a son, Rock Hughes; and two brothers, Max Hughes and Benny Hughes.
