Jim Hoover

(From Greenfield Funeral Chapel)

James Michael “Jim” Hoover was born on December 22, 1949, to Paul and Mary Hoover of Everton, MO. He departed this life on January 21, 2023 at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, MO.

Jim was a military veteran who proudly served 4 years for his country in the U.S. Air Force, joining at age 17 during the Vietnam Era.

After the Air Force, Jim lived most of his life in rural Everton, where he farmed and worked as a U.S. Rural Mail Carrier. He favorite job, however, was his self-designated non-paying job of “patrolling” the gravel roads and farmland on his 4-wheeler (and occasionally his little red scooter) for wherever and whatever was out there.

Jim loved his church family and was an active member of the Pleasant Hill Church. He also served many years as the president of Hampton Cemetery, where he spent countless hours doing various jobs that needed to be done.

Jim and his wife Kay were united in marriage for 39 years. She survives him.

Jim is also survived by his son, Terry Hendrickson; mother, Mary Hoover, who he visited every day; three grandchildren, Carter, Kloe, and Camden Hendrickson; two siblings, Bob Hoover (Gayle) and Bonnie Waldorf (Ray); one nephew, Scottie Hoover; one niece, Brande Palmer (Jeff); one great-nephew, Chase Hoover; and his uncle, Billy Vanhooser.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Hoover; one nephew, Brian Hoover; and his father-in-law, Leonard Mauck.

While in the hospital, Jim sent one of his last text messages to a family member that said, “Love You. See you soon.” Jim, we love you and miss you until we “see you soon”!

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Greenfield Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Hampton Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday at 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hampton Cemetery, 977 E. US HWY 160, Everton, MO 65646, or to the donor’s choice. Services are under the care of Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
