(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)Floyd Burkey, age 75, was born April 23, 1947, to Daisy Benoit Burkey and Kenneth Burkey in Missoula, Montana. He left us to be with Jesus on Friday, January 27, 2023.
His family moved to Sarcoxie, Missouri in his sophomore year of high school. He graduated from Sarcoxie High School in 1965 and entered the Air Force and served from 1966 to 1970.
After serving in the Air Force, he entered the sheet metal trade and was a member of the Sheet Metal Union until he retired in 2012.
Throughout the years, he enjoyed football, fishing, watching his daughter play fastpitch softball and being a servant of God. He was always known for the vast amount of knowledge he had regarding any football team from any time. He was an avid Kansas City Chief fan from the date they created the team until the day he left to be with Jesus. Floyd was a strong Christian spending many years as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Cheryl, his daughter Sandra Burkey Macdonald, his son-in-law Jeff Macdonald, his aunt Irma Lee Wecker, his aunt Adabelle Nance and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 2424 East 20th Street, Joplin, MO on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Garber cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home, Sarcoxie, MO.
