Billy Shores

Billy Irvin Shores, 88, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023, in Joplin, Missouri. Billy was born October 5, 1934, to Owen and Berniece M. (Hosney) Shores in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was a longtime resident of Carthage, Missouri. 

Billy was a Christian and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Carthage. Billy was part of the Class of 1956 at The University of Kansas (KU), where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Music. 

After KU, Billy taught high school music, owned a drive-in restaurant, and worked for the Horace Mann Insurance Company. He was active in his church and served on a variety of boards including Southwest Missouri Life Underwriters and Lake Country Village Property Owners Association.

Billy was united in marriage to Judith Bartlett September 2, 1990, in Las Vegas, Nevada; she survives.

Billy is survived by his wife, Judith; three sons, Billy Irvin Shores, Jr. (Beth) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Chris Shores (Belinda) of Carthage, Missouri, and Michael Shores of St. Louis, Missouri; four daughters, Sarah Shores Barton (Michael) of St. Louis, Missouri, Terri Shores of Coffeyville, Kansas, JaJean Gray of Carthage, Missouri, and Curena Dixon of Carthage, Missouri; and nineteen grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Berniece Shores.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Carthage, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church.
