(From Parker Mortuary)James Howard Potter, age 78, Joplin, formerly of Gentry, Arkansas, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Solace House in Joplin.
James was born January 9, 1945 in Colcord, Oklahoma, son of the late Dugan Potter and Maxine (Steele) Potter Barnes. He grew up in Oklahoma, and after school he served in the United States Navy.
He returned to Oklahoma and worked several jobs over the years, and retired from McKee Baking in Gentry, Arkansas in the maintenance department.
After his retirement, he still wanted to work so he went to work for the Cherokee Casino in West Silom Springs. He was proud of his Cherokee heritage. He was a loving father and grandfather, and always had time to be with family.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Emil Potter, Charles Potter, and Kenneth Potter, and a sister, Katherine French.

Survivors include his children, Shane Potter of Joplin, Shantel Potter of Buffalo, Missouri, Tommy Foreman, of Gentry, AR, and his oldest brother, Tommy Potter and wife Verna of Bakersfield, CA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in Little Kansas Cemetery, Kansas, Oklahoma.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
