Jean Reed

Nona Jean Reed, 92, went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2023.
She was born to Henry & Eula Hess on December 5, 1930, in Lamar, MO, where she grew up as an only child. She was close with her parents and grandparents. 

Jean was a good student in school and enjoyed learning. She graduated as salutatorian of her class. Jean wrote many poems and stories, even having some published throughout her lifetime.

She married Joseph Reed on August 23, 1951. They lived in Kansas City for a couple of years before moving back to a farm in Iantha, MO, where they raised their four children.

Jean spent her lifetime as a homemaker and was a hard worker on the farm. Jean and Joe then moved to Frontenac, KS in 1974. Jean always had pretty flowers in the yard and raised a big garden with lots of produce. She was always there for her family. She was known as "Nana" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jean is survived by two daughters, Rebecca West of Webb City, MO, and Shirley Giacometti (Craig) of Frontenac, KS; and daughter-in-law, Cathy Reed. She had five grandchildren, Matthew Ratterree (Sherrie), Pamela Marshall, Lacey Duffm (Clayton), Gretchen Smith, and Kylee Feagan (Bryan). She had many great-grandchildren, Ashley, Hannah & Jordan Ratterree, Braxton Duffin, Abbey & Nathan West, Brandon Harper, Lily & Annabelle Feagan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; sons John and Grant Reed; and great-granddaughter Kendra Harper.

A graveside service will be held for her family at a later date.
