Helen Hawkins

Helen Marie Anderson Hawkins of Joplin passed away peacefully at Joplin Health and Rehab on January 26th at the age of 81. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, and sister.
Helen was born on December 11th, 1941, in Bloomfield, Nebraska, to Harold O. Anderson and Helen Marie Doty. She graduated from Carthage High School and later moved to Joplin.

In 1969, she gave birth to a daughter, Delaine Marie Anderson. In July of 1976, Helen married Richard Hawkins and became stepmother to his son and two daughters.








She held careers in advertising with the Carthage Press and Skaggs Drug Store, in the accessories departments of Newman’s and Heer’s on the mall, and as church secretary of Grace Baptist Church.

Her family and faith were the focus of her life. Her joys included her children, grandchildren, her dogs, Bentley and Lessie, and her genealogy research.

Helen is preceded in death by her fathers, Harold O. Anderson and Roy Jennings, and her mother, Helen M. Doty Anderson Jennings. Helen is also preceded in death by one brother, Bob Anderson, and one stepdaughter, Rita Hawkins Massey.








Helen is survived by her daughter Delaine Hawkins Robinson of Joplin, MO, one stepson, Steve Hawkins of Anderson, MO, and one stepdaughter, Barbara Sue Gould of Joplin, MO. Helen is also survived by one sister, Evelyn McCullough of Webb City, MO, and one brother, Bill Anderson of Carthage, MO. Her surviving grandchildren are Nic Robinson and wife Marina, Jessie Robinson, Kim Smith and husband Larry, Jason Hawkins, Adam Hawkins and wife Roxanne, Jennifer Welch and husband David, Mike Hawkins, Amanda Paulsen, Tim Newman and wife Lori, and Beth Halverson and husband Aric. She had eight great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Mount Hope Cemetery chapel in Webb City, Missouri, at 2:00 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Joplin Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory (3701 E. 7th Street, Joplin, MO)
