June Reddick

(From Knell Mortuary)

June Ellen Wood Reddick, 90, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2023, in Louisville, Kentucky. June was born June 20, 1932, in Carthage, Missouri, the daughter of Earl Willard Wood and Lottie Spry Wood.

June was a 1950 graduate of Springfield Central High School. She met Larry Reddick on a blind date and, despite his red hair, went on to marry him on March 2, 1952, in Joplin, Missouri.

June and Larry raised their family of four children in Joplin, Kansas City, and Sedalia, Missouri where she was a homemaker. When they moved to Lawrence, Kansas, she worked alongside her husband as owners/managers of a Western Auto franchise for 15 years. After they sold the franchise, she worked at different administrative jobs in Lawrence before they retired and moved to Springfield, Missouri.

Known affectionately within the family as Junebug, she was fun loving and devoted to her family. One of her favorite pastimes was going to casinos and playing the slot machines, and she was disappointed that none of her children inherited this love. She was an avid shopper and could always find a bargain, so much so that her family called her Granny GoGo. She had many other hobbies such as sewing, quilting, knitting, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, working in the yard, and reading.

She and Larry loved to go the shows in Branson, especially for her beloved Andy Williams. She loved her neighbors in Springfield and called them “the girls”; they were like family to her, and she still mentioned them after moving to Kentucky. June was famous within the family for the Halloween costumes she made for her grandchildren, especially the dinosaurs. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, siblings, and other family.

June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry Reddick; her sister Margaret White, brothers Robert, Oscar, and Earl Wood, and twin sister Joan Davidson.

Survivors include her children: Janice Reddick (Gary Barr); Larry Reddick; Joyce Bolton; and Randy Reddick (Carmen Ramos), and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. June was the last of the Wood siblings, marking the end of an era, and her passing leaves a big hole in all our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the Knell Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to service time. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery Carthage, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in June’s honor to the Ronald McDonald House in care of Knell Mortuary or the Mt Vernon Veterans Home, 1600 S Hickory, Mt Vernon, MO 65712. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the Knell Mortuary.
