(From Parker Mortuary)Sharyn Arlene Hood, 74, of Webb City, Missouri, departed this life on Friday morning, January 6, 2023, at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, from complications of a heart attack.
Sharyn entered this life on September 8, 1948, in Pittsburg, Kansas, daughter of the late Roy and Lena (Dugan) Gilbert. She was raised in Joplin and was a 1966 graduate of Joplin High School. She moved to Kansas City in 1987 where she worked at various medical facilities.
On September 18, 1989, she was united in marriage to Larry Hood and together they shared twenty-seven years before his passing on August 1, 2017. They moved from Kansas City to Rogersville, Missouri, in 2001.
Following Larry’s passing, Sharyn made the decision to move to Webb City in 2020, to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Sharyn was very social and hospitable by nature. She enjoyed cooking, listening to gospel music and lending a hand to those in need.
Her parents; husband; and one brother, Dennis Gilbert, preceded her in death.
Sharyn is survived by her daughter, Laurie Lowery and husband, Scott, of Joplin; two grandchildren, Lucas and Lucy Lowery; and sister, Sheila Aiken of Austin, Texas.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Parker Mortuary with Pastor Alan McCamey officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity in memory of Sharyn. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the compassion and care shown by EMS, Mercy Hospital and St. Luke's CVICU team. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
