Janie Armstrong

The tenth of ten children, Rita Jane “Janie” Armstrong was born February 11, 1940, in Trenton District, Kansas, to Lois Irene (Higginson) and Evans William Ferrell. She departed this life on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, in Locust Grove, OK, at the age of 83 years, 8 months, & 13 days.

The family later moved to Dearing, Kansas, where Janie attended grade school, graduating from Field Kindley High school in Coffeyville, KS. On February 2, 1956, in Miami, OK, she married the love of her life, Larry Gene Armstrong. The couple was blessed with 3 children: Randy, Larry Wayne and Kelly. Larry preceded his wife in death on November 8, 2022. The couple had been married for over 66 years.

Janie & Larry lived some time in Neosho, MO, and finished raising their family in Granby, MO. In 1976, they moved to Broken Arrow, OK, and finally made their home in Locust Grove, OK in 1981.

Janie was a loving & devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and Larry enjoyed opening their home to many memorable gatherings that included holidays., family fish fries, & church gatherings. Her peach cobbler will be missed by all that had the pleasure in having tasted it. It was always the hit for birthdays and other special occasions. Janie loved living on Lake Hudson as she enjoyed fishing and camping. Above all, she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and being a part of the First Baptist Church in Locust Grove.

Janie was also a dedicated registered nurse. She had earned her degree at Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, MO. She retired from the Jane Phillips Hospital in Broken Arrow, OK, when she began having medical issues. Janie was loved by all that knew her & will be missed dearly.

She is survived by: Her son: Larry Wayne Armstrong and wife Cindy of Broken Arrow, OK; Her daughter: Kelly Mishler and husband Rick of Locust Grove, OK; Her daughter-in-law: Becky Armstrong of Joplin, MO; 10 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and church family.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 1 son: Randy Armstrong; 1 grandson: Jon Law; 7 sisters: Dorothy, Cora Mae, Rose, Ruth, Donna, Margaret, & Jean; & 2 infant brothers: Donald & Howard.

Funeral services were held 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 30, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Locust Grove, OK. Graveside services & interment was held 2:30 P.M., Monday, October 30, 2023, at Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville, KS. Pastor Blake Wallace officiated. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home
