(From Clark Funeral Home)Terry Don Abernathy was born on March 13, 1958, in Neosho, Missouri, one of three children to Don and Nelda (Richards) Abernathy. He entered into rest on July 6, 2024, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 66.
Terry was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Neosho High School, class of 1976 and furthered his education at MSSU, earning a bachelor’s degree and graduated from the Police Academy in Joplin, Missouri. He had worked at the Seneca Police Department and at FAG Bearing and Jack Henry as a computer programmer. He was a member of the Joplin Full Gospel Church and was an ordained minister. Terry enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.
On December 6, 1975, Terry and Melissa (Wood) were united in marriage and Melissa survives.
Additional survivors include two children, Terry Nathanial Abernathy and wife, Jenn of Joplin and April Kristine Raulston and husband, Brad of Verona; seven grandchildren, Trevon Price and LeAira, Terrence Price, Gaylon Ward, Jasper, Shyann, and Isaac; one great grandchild, due to arrive in November, 2024; his mother, Nelda Abernathy of Neosho; one sister, Lynda Howe and husband, Terry of Neosho and one brother, Denny Abernathy and wife, Vicky of Joplin.
He is preceded in death by his father, Don Abernathy.
A memorial service will be held on August 3, 2024 at 10:30 am at the Joplin Full Gospel Church.
