(From Simpson Funeral Home)Gary Sparrow, a man of deep faith, courage, and loyalty, passed on to his eternal rest on March 11, 2025. Born on June 10, 1943, in Joplin, MO, Gary's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and faith. He was a compassionate soul who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like strumming his guitar or casting a line on a peaceful lake. His love for music led him to become the lead guitarist for Denny and the Cruisers, a passion that brought joy to many.
In his professional life, Gary was as dedicated and loyal as he was in his personal life. He worked diligently for Lozier Manufacturing until his retirement in 2002. He was a respected figure in the community who was an active member of The Get Together Lodge in Oklahoma.
After retirement, he moved to Afton, Oklahoma, where his supportive nature and infectious enthusiasm for life made him a beloved figure. Despite the changes in location, Gary's love for his hometown Joplin and surrounding areas never wavered.
Gary is survived by his sons; Tracy Sparrow, Jesse Higginbotham, Bill Johnson and Chad Sparrow; Grandchildren, Krissa Manner, Christine Hankins, Jesse Leroy Higginbotham, Emily Higginbotham, Levi Higginbotham; Great Grandchildren, Trinity Robinette, Tearson Robinette, Taurance Robinette and Christine Robinette; Great - Great Grandchildren; Christopher Higginbotham, Quarbyn Higginbotham, Oliver Higginbotham, Aviana Higginbotham and Octavia Higginbotham. Sister Janice (Joe) Workman. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Sparrow, and father, Charles Sparrow Daughter Dorothy Porter. As we mourn the loss of Gary, we find comfort in the words of the Bible, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Gary's life reminds us of the importance of holding our loved ones close and cherishing the moments we have together.
