(From Parker Mortuary)Charlene Hartley Twitchell, born on December 3, 1946, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away. She was the daughter of the late Marcella (Moore) Hartley and Charles Juneau Hartley.
Charlene was a devoted Christian who found joy and purpose in serving her church and nurturing her church family in her adult life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Monroe Twitchell, her parents, and two step-granddaughters, Stephanie Elaine Rowe and Cortney Donalissa Johnson.
Charlene gained three wonderful children when she married Richard in June 1977. She is survived by them: Lois (Pastor Ed) Davis of Cheyenne, WY; Rick (Kay) Rowe of Crane, MO; and Melissa (David) Gibbens of Newtonia, MO.
Charlene and Richard (Dick) met in San Diego, CA and moved to Joplin, MO in 1981. She retired from the Library at Missouri Southern in Joplin, MO, after dedicating many years to helping students there. She was also a survivor of the 2011 Joplin Tornado.
Charlene met her husband, Dick, while square dancing, and they enjoyed dancing together for many years. She loved to travel, aiming to visit every state in the union, and she proudly made it to 49 of them.
She is also survived by her six grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Gentiva Hospice in care of Parker Mortuary.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery. The family invites friends for a time of visitation on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin, MO.
